Looking back at sales expectations and current sales realities is something we occasionally do for fun.

We’re aiming for the Scion iQ EV today. Toyota has high hopes for the newly launched Scion iQ EV in 2010. Toyota had previously predicted selling a few thousand vehicles a year. Despite Toyota’s best efforts, the company’s actual sales performance falls far short of what the company had hoped for.

Toyota announced its intention to restrict the iQ. EVs are available to lease customers only shortly after declaring their multi-thousand-unit sales objective.

A fleet-only special, the Q-Series electric vehicle is now available to a small number of hand-picked fleets. As a result, only 70 units have been sold in the US thus far this year. A further 20 units are expected to be leased in the next several months, increasing the total number of units in the US to 90.

To put it another way, sales of the iQ. EV outside the United States is equal to US sales times 1. Toyota City, Japan, makes use of the plus one in this way.

TMS (Toyota Motor Sales) stated that the 2013 Scion iQ EV would be available in the United States. Car-sharing programmes in urban and university areas will benefit from the iQ EV, a four-seater battery-electric vehicle.

According to TMS group vice president of strategic planning Chris Hostetter, Toyota believes battery-electric vehicles can play a part in future mobility policies. Until now, BEV’s appeal to a broad consumer market has been limited by cost and convenience difficulties. A city commuter’s best friend, Toyota designed the tiny electric iQ for short trips and convenient charging options in densely populated areas like cities.

In an ultra-compact and lightweight packaging, Toyota has created a high-output lithium-ion battery capable of providing a world-class electric power consumption rate of 104 Wh/km.

The 12 kWh battery has an estimated range of up to 50 kilometres on a full charge in excellent stop and goes driving circumstances. At 240V, the car may be charged to full capacity in around three hours.

Despite being small, the iQ EV’s 78-inch wheelbase and 13.5-foot turning radius make it an excellent choice for city driving, especially in locations with tight streets and little parking.

Safety

This electric vehicle is equipped with 11 SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) airbags in addition to a front and a back window curtain airbag for further protection.

Production

The Takaoka Plant in Toyota City, Japan, works with Toyota Motor Corporation to produce the iQ EV. It was in September of last year that production got underway.

BMW ActiveE, a car driven by me in San Francisco’s Drive Now car-sharing programme, has more power. However, it lacks the space and horsepower I had in my previous car, the Mitsubishi I.

Efficiency and Performance

It has a 7-inch Video Graphics Array LCD screen that splits audio and vehicle data (such as power usage and energy flow) with the map on the primary navigation screen of the iQ. EV, which has an HDD navigation system.
